Coronary angiography is a test that employs X-ray imaging to examine if you are developing coronary artery disease (blood arteries in your heart). The test is usually performed to determine if there is a blockage in blood flow to the heart as the coronary arteries supply blood, oxygen, and nutrients to your heart, so a buildup of plaque can narrow these arteries, decreasing blood flow to your heart.
Coronary angiograms are part of the heart (cardiac) catheterization group of operations. Cardiac catheterization can be used to diagnose and treat a variety of heart and blood vascular problems. The most common type of cardiac catheterization technique is coronary angiography, which can be used to diagnose heart issues.
